When to Use Cinnamon Bark, Mystic Mocha Morning Brew, and Juniper Berry
Clear Negative Energy, Create Clarity, and Embrace Cozy Autumn Rituals
Hello Friend!
As we near the end of October, I can’t help but feel the seasonal magic in the air. Halloween may take center stage with its playful traditions, but this time of year is rooted in deeper, more reflective practices. In ancient Celtic traditions, Samhain marked the transition into winter, when the veil between worlds was said to thin, allowing for a connection between the living and the dead. Similarly, in Mexico, Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrates loved ones who have passed, blending joy, remembrance, and reverence for those who came before us.
This season of reflection has me thinking about something I often share during my workshops—the importance of changing our perceptions. We are meant to enjoy life, yet how we see a situation often holds us back from fully embracing it. A shift in perception can make all the difference. When we step back and look at a situation with fresh eyes, we often discover that what feels overwhelming can become an opportunity for growth or even joy.
One of my favorite tools (besides our essential oils!) for making these mental shifts is a simple ritual—like enjoying a warm cup of tea. I’ve been savoring a spiced Mystic Mocha Morning Brew with black tea. This comforting drink warms the body and has some powerful, mood-boosting ingredients—especially cinnamon. Cinnamon is a beautiful remedy for reconnecting to our thoughts and feelings. It helps ground us and can spark the motivation to rework our thinking and perceptions, helping us embrace life’s joys more fully.
Mystic Mocha Morning Brew with Pumpkin and Cream
A spiced black tea brew with a mocha twist, perfect for cozy fall mornings.
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon dried ginger root (or 2-3 slices of fresh ginger)
1 cinnamon stick (or ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon)
3-4 whole clove buds
1 teaspoon cocoa powder
2 tablespoons canned organic pumpkin
2 teaspoons black tea (like Assam or Earl Grey)
2 cups boiling water
2-3 tablespoons half-and-half or creamer
1-2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
Sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa for garnish (optional)
Directions:
Add the ginger, cinnamon, and cloves to a teapot. Pour 2 cups of boiling water over the spices. Cover and let steep for 5 minutes.
Add the black tea and steep for another 3-5 minutes, depending on your desired strength.
Strain the tea into mugs, then stir in the cocoa powder, canned pumpkin, and half-and-half or creamer until smooth and creamy.
If desired, sweeten with honey or maple syrup, and garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa.

An essential oil from Sri Lanka: Cinnamon Bark
This week’s star is the warm, spicy Cinnamon Bark essential oil. As we get closer to the holiday season, this oil truly shines—bringing that familiar, comforting scent we all love. Sourced from the inner bark of Cinnamomum verum, this oil has a deep, rich aroma, perfect for creating a cozy atmosphere as you prepare your home for the festive season.
Due to its potency, Cinnamon Bark is too strong for direct use on the skin. However, it’s fantastic in diffusers. A single drop can fill a room with the unmistakable warmth and spice that makes autumn feel special. Its antimicrobial properties also make it an excellent choice for purifying the air as we head into the colder months.
Looking for a simple way to bring some holiday spirit into your space? Try adding a few drops to pinecones or diffusing it for that warm, inviting scent we crave this time of year. You can read more about Cinnamon Bark essential oil here.

Q&A on Cinnamon Bark
Question: A reader recently asked: “I love the aroma of Cinnamon Bark! I’d like to add this to a topical blend. How do you suggest I do this?”
Answer: You can use Cinnamon Bark essential oil in a topical blend! However, we must be extra careful because it’s so strong and can cause skin irritation. There are better oils to use on the skin!
Often, I’ll substitute Tamala ct linalool (Cinnamomum tamala ct linalool) in blends, as it has a beautiful cinnamon-like aroma but is much gentler on the skin.
You can use one drop of Cinnamon Bark in 40 ml of carrier oil (slightly less than one drop per ounce) and then add Tamala ct linalool to enhance the cinnamon aroma without the harsh effects.
Cinnamon Bark Safety:
Cinnamon Bark should be used very carefully on the skin, as it can cause burning, blistering, skin sensitization, and contact dermatitis. When using it in a topical blend, only one drop per 40 ml of carrier oil. It’s not safe to use during pregnancy, while nursing, or with children under five. Be cautious when diffusing Cinnamon Bark, too, as its cinnamaldehyde and eugenol content can cause eye irritation, especially for those with sensitivities.
