Myrrh: The Resin of Resilience and Grounding Inspiration

Step into the new year with clarity and calm. Learn how myrrh resin and essential oil can protect, heal, and transform your rituals.

Hello Friend!

As I held a piece of myrrh resin in my hand this week, I was mesmerized by its deep orange-reddish hue, a color so rich and grounding that it felt like holding a sunset. Often overlooked in its raw form, this resin tells the story of a tree’s resilience. For the tree, resin serves a vital purpose: protection. When the bark is wounded, the tree offers up its resin to seal the injury, shield itself from harm, and ensure its survival.

It’s a beautiful parallel to our own lives, especially as we step into a new year. We all carry “resin” within us—the wisdom, habits, and love we rely on to protect and heal ourselves through the challenges life brings. And just as myrrh’s scent rises from its resin, something beautiful and transformative emerges from our efforts to safeguard what matters most.

From The Vine

In the world of aromatics, myrrh resin often sparks curiosity. Its popularity through history and balancing properties make it a favorite for rituals, blending, and crafting, but one question stands out:

Question: Can I burn myrrh resin?

Answer: The answer is yes! Burning myrrh resin is a timeless practice steeped in tradition and ritual, offering aromatic and spiritual benefits. Here’s what you need to know:

How to Burn Myrrh Resin:

  1. Choose the Right Equipment: You’ll need a heatproof bowl or burner, a charcoal disc, and sand or white ash to line the base of your vessel.

  2. Light the Charcoal Disc: Hold the charcoal with tongs, light it, and let it glow red as it heats up. Set the charcoal into the bed of sand or ash.

  3. Add the Resin: Place a small piece of myrrh resin on the hot charcoal. It will begin to smolder, releasing its rich, tranquil aroma.

  4. Enjoy the Aroma: Allow the smoke to fill your space, creating a sacred, meditative atmosphere.

Benefits of Burning Myrrh Resin:

  • Spiritual Grounding: Myrrh smoke is traditionally used in rituals to enhance meditation, prayer, and reflection.

  • Cleansing Properties: Myrrh’s earthy aroma is believed to cleanse the energy of a space.

  • Emotional Comfort: The deep, resinous scent promotes a sense of calm and connection.
