Natural Back-to-School Support with Lemon Essential Oil
A bright boost for clarity, focus, and fresh routines

Hello Friend!
Whether you're getting ready to send kids back to school or just feeling that quiet shift in the air, this time of year brings a definite change in rhythm.
Do you remember that feeling? The mix of late-summer freedom and the quiet thrill of something new on the horizon? I do. As a kid, I loved back-to-school season. Summer was everything: bare feet, lake days, watermelon juice down my arm. And school supply shopping? Pure magic. Fresh pencils, crisp notebooks, and that sense that something new was beginning.
Even now, that feeling still lingers. The light begins to shift. Sleep schedules tighten. We’re still soaking up summer while sensing fall just around the bend.
Transitions like this are full of momentum, but they also ask us to pause. To breathe. To reset. For me, that often means reaching for familiar rituals: a fog-clearing blend, a scent that helps me land in the moment, a little space to ease into the new rhythm. A drop of lemon essential oil on a cotton round or in the diffuser is one of my favorites this time of year as it’s bright, clarifying, and gently uplifting, like a fresh start in a bottle.
This week’s newsletter is here to support that shift with natural tools, simple inspiration, and grounding reminders for wherever you are in the in-between. Whether you’re packing lunches or simply finding your flow again, I hope something here brings you calm, clarity, and a breath of steady encouragement.

Lemon Essential Oil
Citrus limon
A Bright Companion for Fresh Starts
I’ve always had a soft spot for lemon. It’s one of those scents that instantly lifts me. Just one breath and I feel lighter, clearer, more awake.
Years ago, I visited the Amalfi Coast and still remember the lemons there. Giant, golden, and rich with fragrance, hanging in clusters over sun-washed stone walls. The Sfusato Amalfitano variety is famous for a reason. We tasted fresh limoncello made right where the lemons grew, and it was joy in liquid form. That moment, with the scent of citrus carried on the sea breeze, has stayed with me.
The lemons used in our essential oil come from farther down the coastline, in groves nestled between the Amalfi region and Sicily. These trees grow on warm southern slopes where the fruit ripens slowly in coastal sunlight and clean mountain air. The oil is cold-pressed from the rinds of organically grown lemons, capturing their bright, vibrant essence.
This is the oil I reach for when I need to clear mental clutter or brighten a sluggish day. It is gently energizing! It helps me feel emotionally refreshed and ready to begin again.
Lemon is beautiful in the diffuser, especially in the morning. It blends easily with deeper oils like frankincense or cedarwood. And you can never go wrong pairing it with lavender. That combination brings a peaceful clarity that feels like opening the windows to a clean, sunlit room.
Emotionally, lemon helps clear what feels stale. It creates space for movement, focus, and a renewed sense of possibility. It is a quiet invitation to reset, to brighten the moment, and to begin again.
From The Vine
Lemon essential oil is profoundly uplifting, but it’s also phototoxic, meaning it can cause unwanted reactions if the skin where it’s applied is exposed to sunlight. Aromahead student Flin had a question about using it safely in lotion. Aromahead instructor Michelle set her mind at ease!
Flin: I'm wondering if it's safe to use 5 drops of lemon essential oil in a 1 oz. Hand balm recipe? The skin could have sun exposure. Thank you!
Michelle: Lemon essential oil is phototoxic if you use more than 12 drops per 1 ounce (30 ml) of carrier - in this case, your hand balm is the carrier. At 5 drops to an ounce, you are below the risk for phototoxicity.
Just be sure that your lemon oil is fresh and used within its expiration date. Shelf life is generally 1-2 years from cold-pressing. Lemon is an oil that can oxidize easily, and oxidized oils can irritate the skin. This is a separate issue from phototoxicity.

Clarity comes from engagement, not thought.
This seemingly counterintuitive quote reminds us that sometimes, staying present, engaged, and active brings the clarity that deep thinking can’t reveal. We may be tempted to pause everything until we “figure it out,” waiting for the perfect plan to appear. But we don’t always need to see the entire path, just the next step. Simply showing up, even imperfectly, can illuminate our path forward.
