The Power of Nutmeg and the Ritual of Rest

Blending science and soul in your evening rituals. Did someone mention dreams?

Hello Friend!

Have you ever stood on a mountaintop to catch the sunrise? Heard elk call to one another across the crisp air of early fall? Watched a grizzly, half-submerged in a river, snatch fish with precision? There’s something about stepping far outside your comfort zone that wakes up the parts of us we forget to listen to.

That’s exactly the space we’ve been creating inside The Thriving Aromatherapist membership. A place where science guides us, but never boxes us in. The GC/MS reports are valuable. They’re one of our maps. But intuition is the compass. That’s the part that brings the whole picture into focus.

You’ve heard me say it before. Our thoughts, especially the ones we hold onto when we shouldn’t, shape more than just our mood. They shape our days, our bodies, and our work. How we perceive the world often becomes how we experience it.

That’s why we go deeper. In our Thrive membership, we don’t just study the chemistry of an essential oil. We sit with it. We ask it questions. We pay attention to what stirs within. Last week, I shared an article about Hops that blended both the chemistry and the deeper soul notes of the plant. This week, we’re turning toward something quieter, but no less potent.

I’m opening a new piece called A Mindful Plant Sit with Nutmeg. It’s a meditation and a space to feel how Nutmeg meets both the heart and the mind. Because sometimes what’s missing isn’t more data. It's a connection. And our essential oils are brilliant allies in helping us find it.

As we move into the heart of the winter season, I invite you to settle into A Mindful Plant Sit with Nutmeg. You’ll find the link under Notes of Discovery!

This month in our pillar blog, we’re talking about something that touches every one of us: tension and stress. The kind that quietly builds until we feel it in our bodies and our sleep.

One of the most supportive ways we can care for ourselves is by tending to stress before it takes hold. Especially in the evening, when our bodies are asking us to wind down, but may feel so sore we can’t relax.

This recipe comes from our blog. I’m sharing it again because it’s too good to get lost in the shuffle. It’s simple, grounding, and deeply restorative, releasing deep tension.

Sweet Almond Massage Oil for Aching Muscles
• 1 fl oz (30 ml) Sweet Almond Oil (Prunus amygdalus var dulcis)
• 7 drops Frankincense Oil (Boswellia sacra)
• 2 drops Roman Chamomile Oil (Chamaemelum nobile)
• 1 drop Ylang Ylang Oil (Cananga odorata)

Directions
Combine the ingredients in a 1 fl oz (30 ml) bottle and shake gently to blend.

Gently massage your shoulders, neck, or any tense areas before bed. These oils support the body’s natural release by softening muscles and gently lowering body temperature, which helps signal that it’s time for sleep.

Sometimes, a small shift in the evening can alter the entire next day’s feel.

For a limited time, I’m sharing a Thrive Premium article so you can experience what our members receive every month. These are crafted to deepen your practice and provide fresh insights, therapeutic blends, and real-world applications.

This is a rare opportunity to step inside one of the practices we explore together in The Thriving Aromatherapist Community. On December 12, you’ll have the chance to see more of what makes this space so vibrant — how we blend aroma, intuition, and embodied presence to understand plants on a deeper level.

For now, enjoy this mindful Plant Sit with Nutmeg and get a feel for what you can expect inside the community.

Inside this Plant Sit, you’ll explore:

  • A gentle, guided meditation to help you connect with Nutmeg’s aroma and energetics

  • Sensory prompts that deepen your awareness of texture, scent, and presence

  • A visualization journey to the Banda Islands, Nutmeg’s ancestral home

  • Reflections on Nutmeg’s slow growth, inner wisdom, and symbolic lessons

  • A written and recorded version you can return to anytime you need grounding or inspiration

Product Spotlight

Those of you who have been with us for a while are familiar with our love for hydrosols. They are the water portion of a distillation. The soft, aromatic waters that carry the soul of the plant in a gentle, supportive form.

One of our favorites this time of year is chai co-distill hydrosol. It brings together ginger, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, star anise, and black pepper, all distilled at the same time. The result is warm, sweet, peppery, and radiant.

If stored properly, you can add 1 teaspoon to an 8 to 12-ounce glass of water or tea and receive the subtle energetics of the spices. It is delicious, comforting, and supportive to both the digestive and nervous systems.

And it is not just for drinking. I often use it as a room spray just as it is. The aroma is both grounding and uplifting. It creates a sense of warmth in the space, like walking into a kitchen where something nurturing is being made.

You can also add other essential oils, such as citrus or floral notes, to create a beautiful, custom blend that fills your space with light, spice, and comfort.

Aromatic notes
• Sweet
• Warm and radiant
• Woodsy
• Spicy
• Peppery
• Slightly fruity

No matter the season, spicy chai co-distill hydrosol reminds us of warmth, connection, and conversation.

From The Vine

Lately in our Natural Living Community on Skool, a thread bloomed around the question “What are you blending?” And the ideas were flowing!

Several folks shared blends using Nutmeg, which felt like perfect timing with our Mindful Plant Sit this month. One post in particular from Nancy Oakes made us smile:

“Well, I have to tell you that my dreams were incredibly vivid last night! I did my passive diffusion of Nutmeg and Melissa. I did like Melissa better with the Nutmeg. I smelled it right before going to sleep and left it on my nightstand. Wow! That was fun! Lol”

There’s something special about hearing how each person connects with a plant, not just through chemistry, but through experience. How it feels. What it stirs. And sometimes… how it wakes up the dream world.

If you’ve been blending with Nutmeg lately, or if something’s been calling to you from the shelf, come add your story.

We’d love to hear from you! Join inspiring conversations inside the NLC group! If you aren’t a member, it’s only $24 a year or $3/month!
