The Stories Behind Your Oils + Sun Care Tips

The magic of summer skincare with artisan lavender & DIY recipes

Hello Friend!

You know what I love most about essential oils?

They connect us through soil, harvest, and scent. Every bottle tells a story of plants, people, and place.

Soon, I’ll be receiving lavender from the Kashmir Valley in the Himalayan mountains. The harvest begins in early June. I can already imagine the high-altitude fields and the families hiking into the hills to gather the blossoms. This tradition is shaped by devotion and a deep relationship with the land. The mountains keep giving, and we receive with reverence.

In Montana, where our High Altitude Lavender grows, I stand in a high meadow below the Lolo Peaks, surrounded by snow-covered mountains in every direction. The air is crisp. The land feels deeply rooted. This region holds the memory of the Nez Perce and other Native nations who traveled between Idaho and Montana along these ridgelines and river valleys. They rested, gathered, and honored this land long before we named it. They would be pleased to know that lavender grows here, that we are tending the soil with care, giving back, and continuing the ancient practice of healing using what the land provides.

Lemongrass takes me to India at sunrise. The fields wake early, with a warm hum of life and labor. Harvesting is swift and intentional, often passed down within families who know the land intimately. The scent is green with an earthy lemon and centuries of an inborn desire for creating the most beautiful aroma, a perfume shaped by heritage.

And then there is wild orange from southern Italy. Picture groves stretching under a bold Mediterranean sun, where the trees have grown freely for generations. Families gather around the harvest like a celebration. Children run between trees. Meals are shared in the open air. The oil is full of that warmth. Sweet, generous, joyful. It holds the spirit of a place where food, family, and nature are woven into daily life.

Each oil invites us to connect with the plant, the hands that cared for it, the families who shaped the harvest, and the cultures that continue to keep these traditions alive.

As you smell your oils and prepare to blend them, take a pause. Envision the farmer, the distiller, and the moments of care and labor that brought this bottle into your hands. Let your oils take you somewhere meaningful. Let them reconnect you to the earth, each other, and the beautiful story inside each drop.

Product Spotlight

Artisan Lavender Essential Oil
Grown, harvested, and distilled on our farm in western Montana

This lavender is homegrown. From the first blossoms to the final drop, our artisan lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) expresses the spirit of the land we walk and the care we take with every step.

Nestled below the snow-capped Lolo Peaks, our high-altitude lavender thrives in clean air, wild sun, and mineral-rich soil. When it’s time to harvest, we gather the blossoms by hand in small batches and distill them slowly in our copper still, right here on our farm.

What makes this lavender truly exceptional is the diversity growing in our fields. We cultivate 15 different varieties of Lavandula angustifolia, each contributing its subtle nuance to the final aroma. Together, they create a well-rounded, deeply layered scent with floral softness, gentle herbaceous notes, and a calming warmth that lingers.

What makes our Artisan Lavender truly special:

  • Hand-grown and hand-harvested in high mountain meadows

  • Copper still steam-distilled in small batches on-site for full-spectrum aroma

  • Naturally rich in linalool and linalyl acetate to calm the mind and support the skin

  • Fresh, sweet, and softly herbaceous aroma with depth and elegance

  • Blended from 15 unique lavender varieties for a more complex, complete profile

  • Grown with reverence for the land and the healing traditions it carries

"When you grow and distill lavender with your hands, the oil becomes a relationship. A moment of care bottled for someone else to hold."

This oil is a gift from our farm to your hands. It carries our intention, connection to the land, and the quiet joy of working alongside nature. From our family to yours, you will love this lavender!

From The Vine

We have some wonderful conversations in our Natural Living Club!

Recently, our member Kari shared a great experience in soothing sunburn naturally:

When I was harvesting kale and chard the other day, I inadvertently sunburned my lower back. You know, when you bend or lean over and think your shirt is keeping things covered, it’s not. I asked my husband to spray peppermint hydrosol on it. Instant cooling. Instantly, no more stinging. I applied it as best I could throughout the day. Today, it’s all good!”

Our moderator, Chris, mentioned that she also loved peppermint hydrosol for sunburn and offered a recipe:

“I like to combine Peppermint hydrosol with aloe vera gel and Lavender hydrosol. This spray, which I always have on hand, is cooling, soothing, and skin-healing, making it great for sunburn and windburn!”
