What Can Jasmine Really Do for You?

Blending with Jasmine, supporting digestion, depression, and a new workshop for your creative practice

Hello Friend!

When October arrives, I feel the last whispers of summer slip away. By the end of the month where I live, the trees will be bare, their leaves making way for the quiet of winter. And while there’s a certain stillness that comes with that, I also find myself reaching for beauty, especially in scent.

This is the time of year when I start tending to my space more intentionally. One of the simplest ways I bring balance into my environment is by diffusing essential oils. As the garden flowers retreat for the year, scent becomes my way of keeping beauty alive indoors. I like to keep three or four blends ready to go so I can rotate them depending on my mood or what’s needed that day. This is one of the most creative times of year to blend. Florals and spice oils have such an incredible harmony together.

And of course, we’re right in the heart of Libra season. Libra is a sign known for balance and harmony. The turning of the seasons is a beautiful reminder that balance isn’t a fixed point. It’s something we create and recreate through beauty, connection, and small everyday rituals. This is a lovely time to give someone in your life a little extra attention. Reach out to a friend who brings light into your life. Light a candle. Savor your tea.

Beauty is a part of how you navigate these shifting days.

Right now, I’m immersed in the beauty of jasmine. It’s the oil we’re focusing on in the Thriving Aromatherapist membership this month, and I’ll share one of my favorite jasmine-infused diffuser blends with you below.

The Thriving Aromatherapist membership is a place for aromatherapy professionals to learn, grow, refine, and explore higher-level essential oil concepts.

I’ll tell you more about this in November!

Aromatic Creations Recipe

There’s something deeply satisfying about crafting blends at this time of year. The crisp mornings, the golden light, and shorter days all invite a more thoughtful pace. It’s also a time when I find myself craving scent combinations that feel both grounding and beautiful.

When I sit down to blend, I start with one oil, maybe something floral or citrusy, and layer in warmth or depth until it feels complete. Some blends come together quickly; others require a little fine-tuning. However, the process itself is rewarding, regardless of the outcome.

Here’s my favorite diffuser blend this week. It’s grounding and rich, yet still carries that light, citrusy lift. Beyond the scent, it’s also beneficial for the digestive system or during slower periods of the day. Emotionally, it’s uplifting and can help dissipate feelings of heaviness or lingering negativity.

Jasmine Spice Diffuser Blend
• 3 drops Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)
• 2 drops Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum)
• 1 drop Jasmine absolute (Jasminum grandiflorum)

Pro Tip

Since Jasmine is a heavier oil, I like to blend it with the other oils in a small glass bowl and then add the mixture to my diffuser. This helps incorporate everything evenly so the Jasmine doesn’t sink to the bottom and get left behind.

Notes of Discovery

This month, we’re focusing on digestion—how essential oils can gently support the body’s natural rhythms, especially as we transition into a new season.

In our latest blog, Essential Oils for Digestion: Natural Support for a Healthy Gut, you’ll learn key insights, oils, and practical tips for nurturing healthy, comfortable digestion with aromatherapy. You’ll also get a collection of safe, effective recipes to carry you through the festive holiday season (when eating lots of good, rich food can sometimes be overwhelming).

You’ll learn a variety of ways to bring balance to your belly, including:

  • Essential oils that calm spasms

  • Which oils stimulate digestive enzymes

  • Inhalers that help ease indigestion

  • How to safely support kids when they have tummy troubles

  • The role that stress plays in digestion (and how to soothe it)

Whether you’re dealing with occasional discomfort or an ongoing issue that makes digestion a challenge, you’ll find something useful in this post.

Product Spotlight

If you’d like to experience jasmine but aren’t ready to invest in a full bottle of the absolute, this is one of my favorite alternatives.

This is a beautiful blend.

This pre-blended oil offers a soft, wearable way to experience the richness of Jasminum grandiflorum without stretching your budget. It’s blended with Vanilla planifolia in 10 ml of jojoba oil, so it’s ready to use right out of the bottle with no extra dilution needed.

Warm and alluring, the combination of decadent vanilla and sensual jasmine is a true delight for the senses. Roll on Vanilla Jasmine to envelop yourself in a comforting, captivating scent. It can help center your mind, dispel negativity, and calm your heart.

Stress seems to soften in the glow of Vanilla Jasmine, often giving way to a gentle sense of peace, self-love, and renewed trust in the world.

I love applying a small amount to my wrists or heart space when an occasion feels special, and especially in the evenings. It’s floral, warm, and has just enough sweetness to feel comforting without being overpowering.

A question from our Natural Living Club community about Jasmine

Q: Maria asks:
I want to purchase Jasmine, but I'm not sure which one to choose: Jasmine Absolute or Jasmine Sambac?

A: Chris replies:
I haven’t personally worked with Jasmine sambac yet, but looking at the chemical profile, Sambac is richer in sesquiterpenes, while Grandiflorum has more esters. Sambac also contains phenylethyl alcohol and indole compounds not found in Grandiflorum. That tells me Sambac is likely to have a deeper, more floral, and animalic aroma, thanks to those components.

For me, Jasmine grandiflorum already has a rich, heady aroma. It’s deep and beautiful in its own right. Sambac, from what I’ve seen and read, is also rich, but probably leans more floral due to the presence of phenylethyl alcohol.

My take:
I love how Chris leans into the chemistry here because the components really do shape how our oils and absolutes support us, both therapeutically and aromatically. Phenylethyl alcohol is one of the key aroma compounds in Rose Absolute, which is why Jasmine sambac often feels more floral and radiant by comparison. The indole adds a touch of the untamed, while grandiflorum is smoother, more grounded in its sweetness.

If you're deciding between them, consider the feeling you're reaching for: grandiflorum is round, rich, and familiar. Sambac is more vivid and a touch more floral, but interestingly, it can feel lighter overall. So if grandiflorum has ever felt a little too dense or heady for you, Sambac might bring that same Jasmine magic with a little more lift. I love them both and use them interchangeably.
